Traditional legal approaches often assume that law is unbiased and objective, emphasizing coherence, consistency, and predictability in legal rules. Feminist legal theory, as discussed by Bartlett (1990), challenges this assumption by questioning how masculine perspectives have shaped legal concepts, institutional norms, and legal reasoning.
As a social construct, law has historically reflected and reproduced power relations, including gender inequality, particularly during periods when women had limited opportunities to participate in legal institutions and professional roles. Although law has sought to address women’s issues in various contexts, feminist legal theory continues to critique the extent to which women’s experiences and perspectives remain underrepresented in legal doctrine and practice.
To advance social justice and gender equality, feminist legal theory has increasingly been applied across a wide range of legal fields, from rape and sexual work to labour, tort, contract, property, and company law.
The International Conference on Feminism, Gender, and Law 2024 is organized by the University of Economics and Law, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, following the successful ICFGL 2021.
ICFGL 2024 is sponsored by Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung Southeast Asia and aims to bring together scholars, activists, and policymakers from around the world to discuss and debate the latest research and developments in the field.
A five-member editorial board will carefully review submitted abstracts and select qualified papers for presentation at the conference and for subsequent publication consideration. Conference papers will undergo a double-blind peer review process.
Papers selected for publication will have an opportunity to be featured in a special issue of a leading Scopus-indexed law journal or in a publication affiliated with a QS Top 500 University. The full paper, including footnotes, references, and tables, should be between 8,000 and 10,000 words and must follow the OSCOLA reference style.
